As a nation we are about to witness the biggest change for 50 years in how we generate energy. It is predicted that one-in-five houses will have a solar electricity system within the next five years.

As an incentive to people to harness solar energy the Government has created the Feed-in tariff scheme, also known as Clean Energy Cashback, where it will pay customers for the renewable energy they generate. Once you have signed up for the Feed-in Tariff you will be guaranteed the payment for 25 years. The tariffs are tax-free and index-linked.

The solar panels capture sunlight and convert it into electricity. When the panels are not producing electricity, power can be “imported” from the National Grid to make up the shortfall. Equally, when the solar electricity system is producing surplus energy it is “exported” to the Grid to earn you extra money.

Disruption is kept to a minimum when installation takes place and usually takes between one and two days.
